BIOGRAPHY: Benjamin Shellcrosslee Green was born on April 8, 1873, in Draper, Utah, to William and Jane Jeffery Green. There were four boys and one girl older than him. On August 5, 1875, his mother gave birth to a baby boy, George Ernest. Jane died five days later, and the baby died five weeks after, on September 10, 1875. Probably because he was the youngest, Benjamin went to live with his grandfather, Benjamin Green, and step grandmother, Harriet Cook Mousley Green. His father later married Elizabeth Garnet Shires, and the five older children and Elizabeth’s son, Arthur stayed with them. William and Elizabeth later had two more children, Charles and Jane. William lived across the street from the co-op store in Draper. He earned a living by doing odd jobs around town. He died on July 14, 1915. The entire family gathered at his funeral.
